Children for Change
Making a difference around the world
Learning to care for school plants introduces the child to care for nature
These elementary students study in nature all year round.
Ukrainian children experience normalcy, routine and have a sense of safety at their Montessori school.
Children for Change is a turn-key learning module to introduce elementary and adolescent students to philanthropy.
This MGGF program is intended to help US and/or Canadian Montessori children understand that they can have a significant impact on the lives of others far away.
For example, during spring 2022, five schools each ran their own fund raising project, several classroom-based, at least one school-wide to aid Ukrainian children impacted from the war. These schools raised more than $5K during just a few weeks, by asking for loose change from family, friends, and other community members.
Using templates and guidelines provided by MGGF, the students learn about philanthropy, decide what kind of fund raiser they want to conduct, select a charity to which they want the proceeds of their fundraiser to go, plan who will do what, when and how, and design their marketing materials.
They then conduct the fundraiser. Afterwards, they celebrate their success and also are encouraged to discuss what went well and what they could improve on.
As the guide in the classroom, you’ll oversee the planning and subsequent fundraising effort by the children. You and the students will choose a short time period, possibly one to three weeks, in which the students will conduct their fundraiser. At the end of your fund-raiser, if the students have chosen one of MGGF’s current grant projects, you’ll forward the funds to MGGF. Otherwise, the funds will go to the charity the class chose.
MGGF will supply you with the following materials:
Useful links to understanding philanthropy, what it is, who does it, and what it can accomplish
A full description of the Children for Change fundraiser to give to your administration
Planning templates to help both the guide and the students to plan their fundraiser
A brief explanation of Children for Change to include in your school-wide email, alerting parents to what their children will be requesting, when and for how long their children will be conducting their fundraiser, plus describing the project the funds will support,
A four-color printable sign that the children can edit, and then distribute school-wide promoting Children for Change, with blanks for the dates of the fundraiser, the use of the funds raised, and how to donate,
