July 2024
St. Joseph Montessori School, in the village of Likwakwanda, Thylolo, Malawi, was founded in 2011 and is supported by Warm Heart Ministries, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, created in 2018 to support and establish educational and vocational opportunities for impoverished children and adults in Malawi. According to the World Bank, “Located in Southern Africa, Malawi is landlocked, sharing its borders with Mozambique, Zambia, and Tanzania. The country's estimated population of 19.65 million (2021), is expected to double by 2038. Malawi remains one of the poorest countries in the world despite making significant economic and structural reforms to sustain economic growth. The economy is heavily dependent on agriculture, which employs over 80% of the population, and it is vulnerable to external shocks, particularly climatic shocks “
The St Joseph Montessori School comprises two primary classrooms, an eating pavilion and kitchen, and a large outdoor playground. It currently serves approximately 60 students, per year, ages 3-5 years old. The goal of the school is to promote, support and establish educational and vocational opportunities for impoverished children and adults in Malawi. An excellent Montessori primary education is a crucial step in the vision of the St. Joseph Campus Centre to build a sustainable education pathway for local village students. Through a gift from MGGF St. Joseph’s will be able to train one Montessori teacher which will help the sustainability of their school and to realize their vision to educate and develop the future leaders of Malawi.
