St. Augustine Public Montessori School
July 2024
St. Augustine Public Montessori School began in 2012 as a free, public school of choice within the St. Johns County School District. They predominantly serve under-resourced families unable to afford quality education but who want an alternative from the traditional public education for their children. Because of its success and standing in the community STA has expanded its student population from 32 in 2012 to 170 for the 23-24 school year. This growth has necessitated the need to open a second Lower Elementary classroom for 18 students by mid-August 2024. Currently the school offers nine tuition-free Elementary classes.
With a grant from MGGF they will be able to purchase additional Montessori materials needed for their growing school. The short-term benefits of enhanced educational resources will lay the groundwork for the long-term goal of nurturing informed, compassionate, and proactive citizens.
