Footprints Community Based Organization is located in Samburu County, Kenya with illiteracy rates as high as 65%. Footprints aims to use the Montessori based model of learning to solve the illiteracy problem. Their model includes a commitment to equal opportunity in leadership, staffing, and services by prioritizing local community members in its selection process. Staff positions are filled based on qualification and demonstrated competency in the position. Recruitment for staff positions is competitive; priority is given to qualified community members while promoting fair opportunities for women, men, and individuals with disabilities. Since many of the families live as pastoralists and move from one conservancy to another Footprints aims to establish early childhood schools in Kalepo, Kalama, Losesia and Sera Conservancies. This will provide continuation of learning as communities move from one area to another.

Montessori teacher training is the foundation that will support this model going foward and MGGF will provide funds to train 4 teachers identified from their communities and strong candidates.
